~Our Faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ~

Why I'm blogging...

Welcome to our lives, our farm, and our family. Here is were we give you a view into our daily walk. I pray that it might encourage you while giving you a real life glance deeper into our lives. May we honor the Lord in all we do and say. My greatest hope is that anything you admire within our family points you right back to the Lord Jesus Christ and our love for HIM.

Cancer Free!

Happy Saturday! This day is one filled with a sweet blessing of a long-desired prayer being fulfilled.

When Millie was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in June 2019, we asked the doctor how many cases they saw a year. He replied that they had 3-4 new diagnosis a year. For 4 months we were the only NB patients on the floor that we knew of. There were a few moms of NB kids that we met when they hosted parties for the kids on the floor, but we did not know any children personally. In October 2019 while Millie was receiving chemotherapy on the 10th floor of Children’s Hospital a new ‘neighbor’ moved into the room next to us. A spunky little gal wearing pj’s and cowboy boot…just like Millie! This little one was our sweet friend Ady.
Ady had been diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma just like Millie. They had a few different genetic markers, but they were both very sick little girls. When we were visiting in the waiting room with Ady’s grandparents we felt an immediate friendship with this family. That first visit Ady was making bracelets and gave Millie a tiny multicolored one. Millie loved it! She always looked for Ady at every hospital admission. They would facetime and even tried to use walkie talkies from hospital room to hospital room to talk. They often exchanged little love gifts of animals, blankets, craft sets, but the biggest thing was prayer. Every time Millie said a prayer she would say, “Dear God please heal Ady, Ruby, Ben and ‘big’ Ben her nurse (who was not sick!) from Cancer. Amen”. Millie’s tender heart to her friends’ sicknesses was a blessing to this mama’s ears. God answered Millie’s prayer! All three of those children have been declared ‘cancer free’ or NED… No evidence of disease.
Today was Ady’s bell ringing party. First “The Mack Impact” gave Ady a day of pampering. She dressed up fancy, rode in a plush limousine to paint pottery, then off to a spa day. The day was finished with a drive by parade to celebrate and a bell ringing ceremony. David and I took time to drive in the parade. We were so excited to open the sunroof and have a huge balloon bouqet floating out that said, “Congrats” “Yay” and more. There was a banner on the car that read, “Wahoo” “Party” and “Yay”. As we pulled in front of the house that had been decorated with the HUGE yard signs reading “Cancer Free” and “Congratulations” we paused directly in front of Ady. To be able to see her smiling face as she waved at us was a treasure. Then to see her surprise and JOY as David shot a confetti cannon in the air out of the sunroof was priceless! I also threw handfuls of suckers out on the driveway. What parade is complete without someone throwing candy??
We were invited to remain with the small group that was watching the bell ringing ceremony. I had told Ashley months ago that it would bring us such JOY to see the representation of Ady beating this beast and living LIFE abundantly! Our hearts were filled with happiness to do just that—hear Ady ring the bell!! Ring…Ring…Ring!
"Ring this bell
Three times well
Its toll to clearly say,
My treatment's done
This course is run
And I am on my way!"
I know some of you are wondering how our hearts are holding up. Yes, we shed a few tears for what ‘could have been’ if Millie had rung that bell. We do know that Millie is good now—great actually! Her bell was rung, her fight was done, her course was run, and heaven was her prize. Our hearts are tattered and torn. They will forever be pricked by the small reminders of the great JOY she was to us and how big our loss is. However, seeing our little friends LIVE and THRIVE is such a blessing. We do not take it for granted to be invited to participate in the milestones. THANK YOU ISOM FAMILY FOR BEING WILLING TO LET US SEE THE COMPLETION OF TREATMENT AND SHARING ADY’S JOY WITH US.
Two things that brought Joy to my heart today was when I gave Ady her balloons she said, “You know if we would let one go then Millie could see it in heaven”. She also so joyfully shared with me that she sleeps with Millie’s stuffed pink heart and pin “Every night”. It is hard for a child of only 7 to understand why some people live and some die, especially of the same disease. Ady has seen both sides and she remembers her little friend Millie’s life.
Blessings sweet friends…
