Dear Friends,
Today had tears before I left the house, brief tears of remembering sweet Millie four years ago today dressed in a homemade pink sweater that a longtime friend had made for us. Facebook decided that I needed that memory to show up this morning. It was a sweet balm to my heart, yet a whiff of sadness of her being gone.
Fridays are a
day for homeschool volleyball league. We
travel to the games, watch Katherine play, and spend all our free time between
games catching up with longtime friends. Many of these women I met over 20
years ago when we attended a church in Oklahoma City. That time in our life was one of great growth,
both spiritually and in our family size. We made friends with so many families
with similar interest and longings to raise god-fearing families that love and
are a daily testimony to him. We look back to those times with such fond
memories. Each of these friends became a
treasure whether we see them weekly or once a year. Close to the end of the day
I ran into my sweet friend that crocheted the beautiful pink baby sweater that
Millie was wearing. It was so good to just remember times past together. I enjoy my time with both my longtime friends,
but also with my newer friends that God has brought into our circle the last
few years.
I remember
when I met many of those sweet mamas they were young…so was I! Maybe I was younger, but we all had small
children. I felt inadequate as a
mom. I knew I loved my children and
tried very hard to do the right thing by them, but I learned so much more from
this group of ladies about marriage, motherhood, hospitality, and most
importantly friendship.
Do you ever
feel inadequate or ineffective as a person?
Do you feel like you are a success in your workplace? Or your marriage? Or as a parent? What about as a Christian? I think if we are truthful, we all have
moments of great success, but they are often clouded with thoughts of doubt
about our abilities. Can we really achieve
all that we set out and desire to in this life?
Consider a
seed, it is small and does not look like much. However, when planted in the
right environment, it will grow into a beautiful flower. The miracle of God’s creation is that deep within
the seed God has already placed every internal thing necessary for the seed to
grow into the preordained plant. The
nurturing of the seed is very important—that is the sun and water, but nothing
needs to be added to the seed itself. It
will either grow or not grow; but the growth that occurs will be in line with
God’s design as wrapped up in the nature of the seed. According to God’s word, we have already been
given everything we need for a godly life.
How were the
necessary things given to us? Through
our knowledge of HIM, Christ Jesus. His promise is that you can participate in
his divine nature because HE has escaped the corruption of the world. We get to be more like him by placing our
trust in his glory, goodness, and death on the cross for us.
2
Peter 1:3-8
3
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our
knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these
he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you
may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the
world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add
to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge,
self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance,
godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you
from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus
Christ.
In tough
times, we all feel that fear that that whispers, ‘maybe I am not enough.’ ‘Maybe I will mess this up.’ ‘Maybe God should have chosen someone else to
do the job.’ Regardless of how many times you may feel that you are not measuring
up to par, the Lord is right there with you to give you the wisdom and
endurance you need to be successful. As
the difficult moments come, pause, pray, and remember Peter’s wisdom: you have everything you need for life and
godliness in our Lord. As you continue to seek Him and His ways, your character
is being strengthened and refined so that you can withstand the obstacles and
temptations that come your way. He
desires for you to be fruitful in this calling that he placed on your life. Those who plant themselves in God will
produce Godly fruit---if you are alive and breathing, this includes YOU! Day to day, we can trust God in our lives,
with our children, and with our success.
Blessings
sweet friends…
